The Council 66 Communications Committee is looking for
flight attendants interested in working on various
communication projects including The West Wing news
magazine, the West Wing Video Podcast, airport bulletin
boards, emails, and recorded messaging.
The Communications Committee is a fun, innovative and
progressive committee dedicated to providing a variety of
sources in which to keep flight attendants updated on
Council 66 MEC and LEC information and events. Working with
this committee will keep you in-the-know on union
information while you help your flying friends stay updated
as well.
If you enjoy writing, photography, film production, or
creative design than the Communications Committee is for
you! Commit to as little as one day per month or volunteer
for more in-depth involvement - the choice is yours – and
the Committee will work around your schedule.

Communication Committee Responsibilities:
Partners
with union leadership to build and implement an effective
communications strategy that aligns with and drives AFA’s growth
direction.
Develops
ideas and opportunities for feature articles, interviews,
presentations, and other public relations activities that
promote awareness of the union and its members.
Manages
internal communication functions, including membership
newsletters and develops and maintains relationships with
committee chairpersons, AFA International Office and other AFA
airline councils to facilitate the generation of news for
publication.
Assists
committee Chairpersons with the preparation of articles for
publication.
Interfaces
with the webmaster and committee chairpersons on communication
issues.
Ensures
positive imaging and enhancement of the MEC's reputation among
its members, and the public.
Provides
communications counsel.
Leads
communications processes from start to finish.
Develops
contacts and relationships with media representatives to create
opportunities for keeping Flight Attendant issues and concerns
in front of the media and the public.
Identifies
media targets, interacts with journalists, and sells story ideas
to reporters.
Writes
press materials including press releases, fact sheets,
statements, and Q&As.
The Communications Committee can strengthen the union by
providing integrated leadership and direction for external and
internal communications for the MEC and Committee Chairpersons.
