US Airways Labor Coalition

The US Airways Labor Coalition is composed of the union leaders of all the east and west labor groups at US Airways. The US Airways Labor Coalition will help us achieve our goals by creating a strong, unified voice for labor that management cannot ignore. Not only will we strategize regularly to collaborate on issues, we will also support each other’s efforts and hold events so that all unionized employees may demonstrate their fury and frustration over management’s complete disregard for labor and our issues.

Weight Restriction on West Metal Jumpseats Lifted

US Airways Labor Coalition Presses Management to Change Policy

The Company announced late yesterday afternoon that they will remove the weight restriction for jumpseat riders on west metal aircraft effective March 1, 2008.Flight Deck and Cabin Jumpseat riders on west metal will no longer be denied access to the jumpseat because a flight is weight restricted. The new jumpseat procedure will benefit commuting flight attendants and pilots as well as flight attendants and pilots who are non reving for pleasure.

All other reciprocal jumpseat policy requirements and rules remain in effect under the terms of the AFA/US Airways Transition Agreement. West Flight Attendants still have jumpseat priority above East Flight Attendants on West metal flights and East Flight Attendants have jumpseat priority over West Flight Attendants on East metal flights.

AFA-CWA MEC Presidents Gary Richardson and Mike Flores along with ALPA Vice Chairman Mitch Vasin, members of the recently formed US Airways Labor Coalition, brought forward the west jumpseat weight restriction issue during the January meeting of the Labor Committee for the US Airways Board of Directors and called on management to remove the restriction.

In a letter to employees Sr. Vice President of Flight Operations/Inflight Ed Bular writes:

I was recently made aware of an issue affecting pilot and flight attendant jumpseat riders on flights operated by West. After the cutover to FOS, the ability to make certain weight adjustments was restricted; and therefore we have heard from crewmembers that jumpseat riders are being removed from West flights in greater numbers than before the West cutover to FOS. In addition, we have heard concerns from East pilots and flight attendants about flights that were previously East metal that are now West flights and their inability to utilize the West jumpseats as a result of the weight restriction. We have heard these concerns throughout the system and evaluated the situation to see how we could help.

I understand how important the ability to jumpseat is to all of our commuting crewmembers, and the cutover to FOS was not intended to limit that ability. Therefore, the Company will implement a change to the procedures on flights operated by West to remove a revenue passenger prior to removing a mainline crewmember from the jumpseat. This new procedure will take effect on March 1, 2008. I am pleased to make this announcement and hopeful that this procedural change will benefit both our East and West mainline crewmembers when commuting by adding greater predictability.

 Captain Ed Bular
Senior Vice President - Flight Operations/Inflight
